Artist's Comments
This pictures a main street in an abandoned village named Esco (Navarre, Spain). It was abandoned in 1959 when an artificially created lake (Embalse de Yesa) permanently flooded people's crops (during a time when there were no other means to make a living). Esco is currently the realm of vermin and wild dogs. We went in to quickly take a couple of photos and get out. The degree of damage to the buildings suggests that they were purposely destroyed after the village was abandoned. Walking in the streets of Esco along the ruins of the village is truly overwhelming, but the story behind it is sad. In fact, the place gave us the creeps and left us somewhat confused.

We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you  the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. This image has a lot going for it, the tone is simply wonderful, the detail is stunning, and the slight upward tilt on the camera makes the buildings seem to loom over and makes the whole image creepier
Plus I love the graffitti of El Bandido, it sorta gives the image even more personality.
